Jerry Carroll Cate

Jerry C. Cate, 71, of Cleveland passed away at his residence following an extended illness. He was born in and a lifelong resident of Ocoee. Well known as the unofficial mayor of Ocoee, Jerry was a stranger to no one. He was very proud to be from Ocoee and loved to be outdoors and racing go carts and dirt tracks with his grandchildren. He loved animals, especially horses. He was a Master Mechanic employed with John Deere for many years, self employed, and later retired from Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant. He took a lot of pride in his work and accomplishments. He attended Cookson Creek Baptist Church

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Jimmie Cate; a brother, Reuben Cate; and a sister, Anna Sue Moore.

Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Lecetia Cate; his son, Carroll Cate (Sheri); sisters, Sally Stewart (Jack) and Louise Womac; grandchildren, Cody, Chelsea, Jenifer, Daylon, Taylor, Kennedy, and Knox; great grandchildren, Sophia, Ashton, and Bella; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Cookson Creek Baptist Church on Sunday, August 18, 2019 from 2pm to 4pm. Funeral services will be at 4pm with Rev. Mike Rymer officiating. Burial will follow in Cookson Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family has requested the following men to serve as pallbearers: Michael Stewart, Mark Stewart, Latt Teasley, Charles Lawson, Thomas Patterson, and Greg Merrell; and honorary pallbearers: Howard Thompson, Kent Hicks. Browning Thomas, and Ronnie Lowery.
