Jeannie Francisco Nicely, born on August 7, 1953, in Volusia County, Florida, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026, at the age of 72, in Ooltewah, Tennessee, after a 17-year-long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Jeannie's life was marked by compassion, dedication, and a deep love for her family, friends, and career.
A devoted registered nurse and certified lactation consultant, Jeannie spent most of her career at Johnson City Specialty Hospital, caring for mothers and newborns as a labor and delivery nurse. She found great purpose in helping bring new life into the world, and her kindness, expertise, and enthusiasm left a lasting impact on countless families throughout her years in healthcare.
Jeannie's greatest joy was her family. She was a proud and loving mother and grandmother who treasured every moment spent with her loved ones. She is survived by her loving son, Paul (Abby) Nicely; her grandchildren, Clifford Francisco and Lillian Jean; and her brother, Neal (Linda) Francisco. She celebrated many meaningful milestones with her son, including his college graduations, marriage to Abby, and the births of Cliff and Lily. Jeannie also held close the love and memories of her parents, Clarence and Emogene (née Shannon) Francisco, who preceded her in death.
Outside of her career and family, Jeannie had a deep love for the beach, traveling, reading, and cross-stitching. She loved working on her tan by the pool or at her favorite vacation spot, Daytona Beach, Florida. Later in life, she explored New England and the western United States with Neal and Linda. She crafted many amazingly detailed cross-stitched pieces for her family to cherish for years to come. Jeannie embraced life fully and created friendships that endured for decades, including with her lifelong best friend, Ginny Lee Barham, and her coworker, Paula Townsend, who supported her emotionally throughout the years.
Jeannie will be remembered for her generous heart, vibrant personality, unwavering compassion, and the love she gave so freely to others. Her presence brought comfort, joy, and strength to everyone fortunate enough to know her, and her memory will continue to inspire all who loved her.
A celebration of Jeannie's life will be held on Saturday, June 27, at 2:00 PM at Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, located at 201 S. Roan St., Johnson City, TN 37601. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather, share stories, and honor the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association to honor Jeannie's life and her courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.
