Janet Louise Young, age 83 of Maryville, passed away Tuesday evening, May 27, 2025, at Clover Hill Senior Living in Maryville, Tennessee. She was born February 22, 1942 in Douds, Iowa, the only daughter of the late John Leroy and Mary Josephine Griffin Robinson.
Janet graduated from Douds High School in Iowa in 1960, before continuing her post-secondary degree at Iowa Methodist School of Nursing, in collaboration with Drake University, where she received a Registered Nursing degree in 1963. In addition, she completed a Ph.D. in Vocational Education from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1980.
As an R.N. for over 55 years, she spent the majority of those years serving the developmentally disabled population residing at Choate Mental Health Center and the CILAs of Anna, Illinois. She deeply enjoyed serving this special community. She also served as a Rural Health board member for many years.
Janet was preceded in death by two husbands: Wm. Perry Young of Goreville and Harold F. Blum of Anna, Illinois. She was also predeceased by her parents, John L. and Mary Josephine Griffin Robinson, as well as her eldest brother J. Leroy 'Bud' Robinson.
She is survived by her adored children: Cheri (Adam) Galan of TN, Jennifer (Mark) Tompkins of FL, and Carl (Mary) Young of AZ. Janet is forever missed by her grandchildren: Derek, Jacob, Natalie, Garrett-Adam, Nathan-Andrew, Shayanne, Carlee, Taylor, and Mason as well as her seven great-grandchildren. Additionally, she and her late husband, Perry Young, leave behind their close friends Scott and Rebecca Hoffman of TN. Likewise, her memory lives on by her remaining sibling J. Louis 'Lou' (Connie) Robinson of IL.
