James Isaac Vess, 24, went home to be with the Lord on April 13, 2026. Isaac was born on July 1, 2001, in Dalton, Georgia, to his parents, Melissa Voyles Lee and Matthew Eugene Vess.
Isaac was truly unforgettable. Anyone who knew him knew he had a heart bigger than the sky and would do anything he could to help others before himself. He loved the Lord deeply and had a strong love for his country, proudly serving in the United States Army as a combat engineer.
He was a devoted movie buff and cherished the time he spent watching movies on repeat with his dad. His little sister, Scarlet, looked up to him greatly, and he adored her just as much, the bond they shared will live on in her forever.
In his younger years, Isaac loved skateboarding, often to the point of breaking his boards. He had a deep love for the outdoors and, although Isaac loved his time in the Colorado Mountains, he was extremely proud of his southern roots. He also had a special place in his heart for dogs and had many throughout his life. He was most of all, a talented musician and loved to grab a guitar and sing will all of his heart and soul, often times alongside his mom, Melissa. Isaac was attending Ascension Life Church in Athens, Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Cynthia and Gary Vess, and his maternal grandfather, Carl Voyles.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved parents, Melissa Voyles Lee and Matthew and Amy Vess; his cherished little sister, Scarlet Lee; his maternal grandmother, Claudia Voyles; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins whom he loved dearly. Isaac also leaves behind many close friends, especially Jacob Allen along with Abigail Hampton, who still held a special place in his heart.
"God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted." - Matthew 5:4
