James "Clifford" Swafford

JAMES "CLIFFORD" SWAFFORD

On August 30th , 2025, James "Clifford" Swafford was called home to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 87. He was born July 2, 1938 in Bradley County to John T. and LoEtta Masengill Swafford.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his precious son, David Ryan Swafford, whom he has missed every day since his passing, his brothers: Billy, Charles, Virgil, Odell, and Dewitt Swafford and his sister Betty Fern Swafford.

Clifford attended Maroon Grammar School and graduated from Bradley High School. He taught himself to play the guitar and loved to sing with his family. He was co-owner and operator of Swafford Bros. Construction Company for over 30 years. He coached and mentored many young men in the Dixie Youth Baseball program at the old Fulbright Ballpark. Clifford was a humble and loving man who provided for his family and never failed to show love to them. He also exemplified God's love to each and every person he met. He had a special love for his sister-in laws Evelyn Defriese and Twyla McAmis, who have been a constant help and support throughout his life. Among the many friends and family members that he dearly loved, Jaqueline was especially loved by him. She not only helped care for him, but he considered her a family member and a special angel over the last year and a half.

Clifford leaves behind to cherish his memory the love of his life, his wife, Martha Lee Corvin Swafford, his two daughters Kim (Nathan) Ross and Jill Swafford, daughter in love Dina Swafford; grandsons Tyler Goins, Clay Goins, Nolen (Ashley) Goins, Brandin Loyless, and Mike Loyless. He also leaves behind 5 precious great grandchildren: Reese and Kit Goins, Blaise, Caius, and Braylee Loyless, his precious brothers Harold (Ann) Swafford, Raymond Swafford, Daniel (Deborah) Swafford. Also many nieces and nephews. Family meant everything to him.

He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 6th , from 3pm-5pm at the Chapel at Companion Funeral Home. A private family burial will follow with Chaplain Judy Scott conducting the service.
