James Luther "Jim" Richards

July 14, 1945-August 25, 2025

James Luther Richards, lovingly known as "Jim," spent his life in Tennessee-growing up in Knoxville and calling Cleveland home for most of his years. Known for his wit, loyalty, and big heart, Jim touched the lives of many with his laughter, strength, and deep love for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Dora Richards; two sisters, Barbara (Ken) Workman and Sugie Wilson; his brother, Ted Richards; and his wife, Lisa Richards. He is survived by his devoted daughter, April Richards; two sisters, Sue (Tim) Howerton and Doris (Jim) Rose; and many nieces and nephews who will continue to hold his memory close.

Throughout his life, Jim explored a variety of careers that reflected his curiosity, independence, and strong work ethic. He once served as a private investigator for the State of Tennessee, later became a small business owner operating his own security company, and eventually retired from Concord Development as a regional hotel manager.

Beyond his work, Jim's greatest joy came from the people and pets he loved. He was a deeply proud father who never missed an opportunity to talk about his daughter, April. His face lit up whenever he talked about her-whether it was her personal milestones or her dedication as a teacher and coach. Jim was always up for a good time, enjoying the company of close friends and family, and never passed up the chance to share a laugh or tell a story. He especially loved spoiling his dog, Gracie, and his cat, Luke.

Jim's life was marked by resilience, humor, and heart. He faced his final chapter with quiet courage, surrounded by the love of those who meant the most to him. His story-rich in love, laughter, and cherished moments-is one that will not be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Walker Valley Softball in support of his daughter April's passion. Contributions can be mailed to WV Softball, 750 Lauderdale Memorial Hwy, Cleveland, TN 37312.

You are invited to share a personal memory of Jim or your condolences with his family at his online memorial located at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral Home of Cleveland and the Cody family are honored to assist the family with these arrangements.
