James Michael "Mikey" Harris, 44, of Cleveland, Tennessee passed away peacefully at his home on September 12, 2025. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Victor Harris Sr. and Linda June Harris, and brother Hugh Victory Harris Jr..
He is survived by his 4 siblings, Denny Harris (wife Stacy Harris), Connie Harris, Diane Roberts, and Callie Harris. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews: Nathan Harris, Jeremy Walker, William Walker, Josh Gamble, December Harris, Hannah Roberts-Cross, and a beloved step daughter Madi Beck.
Mikey was a brother and a friend to just about anyone that crossed his path. He was funny, well-liked, a hard worker, a loyal friend, a great story teller, and an intentional caregiver. He never met a stranger, but also enjoyed a quiet evening alone. He loved sitting on the front porch or out in the garage listening to some classic country music and reminiscing about the good ole days. He was thoughtful and content and never needed to be the center of attention. He was many people's "first call" when a helping hand was needed or a little bit of encouragement or support. He was an all around "good guy".
Those who knew Mikey best, knew he was a kid at heart. He loved watching Saturday morning cartoons growing up, and has always loved video games. A few of his other favorite things include Batman, anime, and Yu-gi-oh. He was a true 90's kid and loved the nostalgia of bringing things from the past into the present. When the Super Nintendo was released in 1991, he couldn't believe that Mom and Dad were able to snag one for him for Christmas. He felt like he had hit the jackpot. He played that game every chance he got (Mom loved video games too). His love for video games continued to grow as he grew older and it seemed like he made it a goal to own every video game system on the market at some point in his life. To this day, he has at least 20 video game systems lying around his house.
A couple of Major Accomplishments in his life were Graduating from College and Purchasing a Home.
He received 2 Associates Degrees, An Associates of Applied Science with a concentration in Business, as well as a certificate in Business Management. This was a big deal because college never seemed to be in the works for him, but the doors opened and he made it a priority to further his education while maintaining a full time job.
Buying a house was a wild ride as well. He wasn't the best money manager, but through hard work and determination, he did everything he needed to in order to get his realtor to hand him a set of keys on closing day. That day made him so proud!
Mikey didn't love work, but he was committed to being there every single day and doing his very best at his job. It bothered him when other people weren't as passionate about their work as he was, but he didn't let that stop him from doing what he needed to do. He worked about 15 years of his meat cutting career working for Save-A-Lot. He loved that place. It's been a community grocery store for such a long time and he became friends with many of the customers over the years as they would interact with him as they shopped there regularly. This past year, he got really brave and decided to step outside of his comfort zone and move to a new grocery store. He was honestly terrified to leave a place he felt so comfortable and try something new that would give him more opportunities to grow in his trade and advance as a professional. His family and friends were so proud of him for this move. This is when he began his journey at Food City. He felt like he was working with the "Big Wigs" at Food City in comparison to Save-A-Lot, and he wasn't sure how to act, because he always felt like a simple guy. Once he got there, of course he fit right in, and everyone loved him. He was looking forward to finishing his career with Food City and retiring one day, so he could stay home and tinker with his video game collection and maybe even open a hobby shop one day.
Mikey was an old soul, a good ole boy, a brother, and a dear friend to so many. James Michael "Mikey" Harris, we love you so much and look forward to seeing you again one day.
