James Guston Head

James Guston Head, age 81, one of the last O.G. hot rodders, went to the big garage in the sky early in the morning of May 12, 2026, peacefully in his sleep.

Jim was preceded in death by his stepfather, Cecil Hughes; mother, Ollie Ruth Hughes; sister, Janey (Curtis) Willeby; and nephew, John David Hughes.

Survivors include children, Timothy Allen Head, Shannon Renee Dunn, and Elizabeth Anne Head; grandchildren, Brian Patrick Zachariah Head and Krissa Dunn; life partner, Robin Marie Carroll; Robin's children, Stacey (Irin) Griffin, Mack (Dawn) Carroll; and grandchildren, Bradley, Mason, Lane, BriAsya, Eli, ad Kash.

Jim was a trucker by trade and his most recent employer was Skier's Choice of Vonore, with whom he had an illustrious career. When he retired, he could always be found tinkering in the garage, doing yardwork, watching old westerns, or helping anyone that needed his help.

If there is a dragstrip in Heaven, we know he is up there with his best friends, Raymond McCulloch and Robert Watson, turning wrenches and trying to beat each other's times, or fishing for crappie along a beautiful river.

No formal visitation will be held and a graveside service and interment will be at a later date.
