I.L. “Sonny Cates, Jr., 82, passed away January 3, 2020. He was a veteran and retired from DuPont and enjoyed playing golf, watching the Braves, working crossword puzzels.
He is preceded in death by his parents, I.L. Cates, Sr., and Pauline Plemmons; brothers, Robert Cates and James Cates.
Survivors include son, Tim Oliver; daughter, Sandy (Jesse) West; sister, Carolyn Boynton; niece, Miki Thompson, nephew, Michael Plemmons; 6 grandchildren, Justin Oliver, Gregory Oliver, Garrett Oliver, Jessalee West, Addison West and Montgomeree West.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 from 5-7 PM at Companion Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Jeremy Jones officiating.
