Hubert "Hubie" John Shaw, 79, of Englewood went to be with the Lord on June 19, 2026.

Hubert honorably served his country as a Sergeant in Germany during the Vietnam War, where he served in evacuation and recovery operations and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal as a Sharpshooter. Following his military service, he dedicated over 30 years to DuPont as an electrician before continuing his career at Watts Bar, where he later retired.

Hubert was known for his strong work ethic, mechanical skills, and willingness to help others. He was the kind of person who could fix just about anything and never shied away from a challenge. He especially enjoyed working on lawnmowers and took great pride in repairing things for family, friends, and neighbors. In his free time, he enjoyed bird hunting, particularly quail hunting. Hubert will be remembered for his kindness, dependability, and generous spirit, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Peggy Haun Shaw; parents, Walter and Kate Shaw; and sister, Eloise Foster.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Shawna (Carl) Best and Sara (Don) Middleton; grandchildren, Savannah Best, Tyler (Ashley) Shaw, Donald Middleton, and Ariel (Heath) Brown; great-grandchildren, Tilly Shaw and Cade Middleton; sister, Juanita Hicks; twin brother, Herbert (Norma) Shaw; special friend and cousin, Randall (Darlene) Williams; several nieces and nephews; and many other cherished family members and friends.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Companion Funeral Home of Athens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to The Amyloidosis Foundation at amyloidosis.org in Hubert's memory.

You are encouraged to share a memory of Hubert and extend your condolences to his family by visiting his memorial page and guestbook at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral Home of Athens and the Cody family are honored to assist with these arrangements.
