Homer Davis

August 10, 1935 — June 16, 2025

COL/Ret Homer Eugene Davis, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend to many, passed away June 16, 2025. Homer was born August 10, 1935, in Chattanooga, TN to Robert Lee and Oma Lee Davis.

Homer had a remarkable way of connecting with people from all walks of life. He made friends easily and was great at engaging everyone in conversation. He was a member of First Baptist Church Cleveland for 30 years.

Homer graduated from Chattanooga Central High School in 1954 and joined the Marines. He served as a Marine for 6 years then decided to join the Army National Guard where he remained until retirement in 1995. During the years he wasn't on active duty he worked for the Tennessee Highway Patrol (10years). He is a graduate of U.S. Army Command and Gereral Staff College; U.S. Army Field Artillery Officer Advance; Nuclear Weapons, Pretix 5; U.S. Army Engineer Officer Advance and Personal Management for Executives; Military Police Officers Advance. He was also certified fixed wing pilot and had numerous hours in a helicoper. He walked across the stage at the age of 50 and graduated with a BA in Public Admin. From Cumberland University. He was eventually appointed as the United States Property and Fiscal Officer (USPFO) for Tennessee. This position represented the Governor on Federal funds and property in the possession of the Tenn. National Guard. During his career, because he was a fixed wing pilot, he was able to donate time to transport burned children to the Shriners Burn Hospital in Cincinnati, OH.

In his free time, Homer loved to golf, work in the yard and piddle around in his workshop. He was a huge fan of UT football, basketball and baseball. If it was televised, he was watching it. He loved telling stories about the military and State Trooper days. But most of all, he loved spending time with family.

Homer was a great example of love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; and his country. That patriotism and love will be forever cherished by his friends and family who will honor him by carrying on this legacy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Bettis Davis; step-son Gregg Bettis; brother, Robert Joseph Davis.

Homer is survived by his wife, Teri (Fair) Davis; 3 children, Vicky Henderson (Al) of Lewisburg, TN; Charles Stanley Davis of Chattanooga; step-daughter, Mandi Colloms of Cleveland, TN; brother, Kenneth Davis (Carol), of Ooletwah, TN; 4 grandsons, Josh Visage (Lori Beth) of Lewisburg, TN; Matthew Bettis of Las Vegas, NV; Daniel Bettis (Tori) of Eureka, MO; Caleb Davis of Chattanooga, TN; granddaughter, Lydia Helton (Taylor) of Murfreesboro, TN. He has 2 great-grandsons that he adored, Riley Visage and Gunner Davis.

A celebration of Homer's life will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at Companion Funeral Home The Ridge Chapel located at 2412 Georgetown Road in Cleveland, TN. Visitation will be from 2 - 4pm with the service to follow. Rev. Steve Morgan officiating. Burial will be the following day, June 23, 2025, at the National Cemetary in Chattanooga, Tn., at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make donations to the First Baptist Cleveland Building Fund, 1275 Stuart Road, Cleveland, TN 37312 or to Cross Country Cowboy Church (4C) building fund, 1809 Bear Creek Pike, Columbia, TN 38401.
