In Loving Memory of Hershal Eugene "Tojo" Pell
Tojo Pell, 61, of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away on October 21, 2026, after a courageous 15-month battle with cancer surrounded by his loved ones.
To know Tojo was to love him, and if you knew him, chances are you have a story that still makes you laugh. He was the life of every family gathering, the biggest jokester in the room, and a man who never met a stranger. He had a larger-than-life personality, a heart full of love, and a sense of humor that could brighten even the darkest days.
Tojo loved life, but more than anything, he loved his family. They were his whole world and the reason he fought so hard for so long. For 15 months, he battled cancer with incredible strength and determination. He fought for every extra day, every family gathering, every laugh, and every memory he could make.
Tojo had a special way of making ordinary moments unforgettable. Whether he was cracking jokes, picking on someone, sneaking selfies onto an unattended phone, or making sure at least one picture included his signature middle finger, he always found a way to leave everyone laughing. That was Tojo. Full of life, full of mischief, and always unapologetically himself.
The world is a little quieter without Tojo in it, and family gatherings will never quite be the same. But his stories will continue to be told, his jokes will continue to bring laughter, and his love will live on in every person fortunate enough to have known him.
Tojo didn't just live life. He loved life. And he made sure everyone around him enjoyed it, too.
Forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Eugene Pell; father-in-law James Harold Long.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 38 years, Jamie Pell; His children Dustin (Kaylee) Pell, Dillon (Chyanne) Pell, and Lily (Jake) Thompson; his mother Ruth Pell; His siblings Donna (Mike) Truelove, Teresa (Ricky) Gladden, Linda (Tony) Dixon, Lori (Billy) Kibble, Dale (Crystal) Minton, and Michael Parker; His grandchildren Kamdyn and Miles Pell, Sawyer, Knox, and Hudson Thompson; Closest friends that he viewed as brothers are Randy Dillard, Scott Cronan, and Jeff Lawson. Along with a host of nieces and nephews he held very close to his heart.
Pallbearers include Jeff Lawson, Clayton Truelove, Bryer Truelove, Dakota Guffy, Jermey Kazy, Jake Thompson, Dakota Thomas, and Dustin Pell. Honorary Pallbearers include Dillon Pell, Mike Truelove, Randy Dillard, Scott Cronan, Dale Minton, Sawyer Thompson, Knox Thompson, Hudson Thompson, and Miles Pell.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday October 27, 2026 from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Ridge Sanctuary of Companion Funeral and Cremation Service located at 2412 Georgetown Rd. NW Cleveland, TN 37311.
