Heman Haze Waddell died suddenly and went to be with the Lord on March 13, 2026. He battled many illnesses for several years before his death, including Parkinson's disease. Each time a new health issue arose, he looked at it as a personal challenge and adapted. He was one of the strongest and bravest people you could know.
Heman grew up in Birchwood, TN and also lived in Cleveland, TN for many years. He worked in HVAC for much of his career and retired as a superintendent of a construction company. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Heman was of Baptist faith and loved listening to old gospel, bluegrass, and classic rock music. He enjoyed woodworking, watching wildlife, and a nice campfire. He believed in God, never met a stranger, loved a good joke, and enjoyed a happy little tune. He worked with his hands all of his life, was an excellent carpenter, could fix anything, and would help anyone he could. Heman was generous, loving, and kind. He was a wonderful father, protector, and friend. He will be dearly missed.
Heman was preceded in death by his father Haskell Waddell, mother Virginia Waddell, brother Jessie Waddell, sister Jody Cochran, brothers-in-law Bill Westbrooks, Earl Couch, Keith Grisham, Frank Holder, and Ralph Cochran.
He leaves behind two daughters Becky Waddell and Ashley Painter (Mike), sisters Billie Westbrooks, Bobbie Holder, Dora Couch, and Hackie Grisham, brother Carl Waddell (Stephanie), and sister-in-law Veda Waddell. He also leaves behind many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will welcome guest Friday, March 20, 2026, at Companion Funeral Home, Ridge Chapel from 12:00-2:00. Funeral services, officiated by Pastor Quinn Green, will follow at 2:00. Heman will be laid to rest at McInturff Cemetery with Military Honors rendered by the US Navy.
