Gladys Marie Gates

Gladys Gates, age 97, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026. Born on August 13, 1928, Gladys lived a long and full life centered around family, simple joys, and caring for those she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Carsie Cope; brothers, Junior Cope and Lonnie Cope; daughter, Cookie Woods; granddaughter, Melinda Bearfield; nieces, Juanita Moore and Gay Cope; and nephews, Eddie Cope, Butch Cope, Don Correro, and Keith Shoemaker.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her grandson, Buddy Bearfield; son-in-law, Dennis Woods; nieces, Luann Varner, Jennifer Shoemaker, Barbara Cope, Geneva Gorrero, Jan Cope, Jenny Dingus, and Sheila Cope; nephews, Mike Cope, Joe Cope, Jimmy Moore, and Darrell Varner; along with many beloved great-nieces and great-nephews.

Gladys enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. She loved working word search puzzles, spending time mowing her lawn, and caring for her two cherished cats, Dorito and Nacho. She will be remembered for her independent spirit, her love for animals, and the care she showed to those around her.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Companion Funeral Home - Ridge Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
