George Wood Jr.

September 10, 1951 — August 17, 2025

It is with great sadness that we, the family of George G. Wood Jr, announce his passing on August 17th, 2025. George was 73 years old.

Born in Troy, NY, George graduated from Mechanicville High School in 1971. He went on to receive vocational training and earned his journeyman's license as a class A machinist. He then worked for GE in New York for many years until he moved to Palm Bay, Florida in 1998. Once in Florida, George worked for the City of Melbourne as a maintenance specialist until he retired in 2016. He met and married Teresa Klaman in 2021 and, together, they relocated to Etowah, Tennessee, where they lived until his passing. George spent much of his time carving beautiful animals out of blocks of wood and canes out of random hard wood sticks. He decorated the canes with wood burning and with paint, donating most of them. George made sure to always sign his masterpieces with "G.W." He was an avid camper and also appreciated antique cars and antique tractors.

George had 1 daughter, Tammy Marie Wood and 3 step-sons, Timothy Klaman (Jennifer), Mathew Harazin (Samantha), and Jeremiah Harazin (Heidi). He was also blessed with 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. George was the oldest of 9 children; Susan Dodge, David Poirier, Dona't Poirier, Dory Phillips, Hope Davis, John Wood and Andria Ney. He was proceeded in death by his 1st wife, Virginia Rose Kuscsik; his father, George G. Wood Sr; his mother, Veronica Kathleen Adams; and his sister, Bonnie Jeanne Simard.

George is being cremated by Companion Funeral and Cremation in Athens, Tennessee. There will be no public services due to the long distance of many family and friends. We invite you to share your favorite memories and pictures of George on his facebook page. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to any Hospice organization of your choice.
