Today we are here to honor George Richard McAndrews , who passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, at the age of 80, at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Clevland, TN.

Born on June 19, 1945, to George and Mary McAndrews, in Albuquerque, NM. George was raised in a military family and embraced a lifelong commitment to service. He served as an officer in the United States Air Force for over 20 years, flying KC-135 and B-52 aircraft and serving honorably during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Air Force in 1988.

After military retirement, George continued to serve his country through his work in the aerospace industry. His career included significant contributions at McDonnell Douglas, Boeing, and Lockheed Martin, where he was an integral part of the C-17 and F-15 programs.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, George was known for his commanding presence, infectious humor, and extraordinary ability to connect with people. He never met a stranger and left a lasting memory on everyone he encountered. His devotion to his family was unwavering and central to his life.

George also dedicated 15 years to serving his community as a Santa Claus, bringing joy, laughter, and holiday magic to countless families. He was widely regarded as one of the great Santas and treasured for the warmth and spirit he shared.

George was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Blair McAndrews; his father, George McAndrews; his first wife, Jo McAndrews; his brother, Chester McAndrews; and his sister, Mary Ellen Gaffney.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen Sparrow McAndrews; his daughters, Kristie Finn Dabra McAndrews, Andrea McAndrews, and Lacey Brielle McAndrews; his grandchildren, Nathan Finn, Haley Rodriguez, and Wyland Hegness; and his great-grandchild, Juniper Jo Finn.

He is also survived by his stepchildren, Deanne Fisher, Gina Burton, Carrie Burton, Sam Burton, Shayla Burton, and Melody Burton, along with 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

George will be laid to rest Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 1:00 at Chattanooga National Cemetery with full US Air Force Honors.

George McAndrews leaves behind a legacy of honor, service, love, and joy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
