On May 7, 2026, heaven gained a beautiful angel. Gayle Jacoway Patterson, age 72, passed away peacefully with family by her side after battling multiple medical complications. She now rejoices in her heavenly home surrounded by long separated family and friends.
Born in Chattanooga TN as the firstborn of four children, Gayle graduated from the Bright School and Girl's Preparatory School. She went on to a long professional career at TVA and the Hamilton County Dept. of Education - retiring in 2021.
As the eldest to three brothers, Gayle learned how to take care of others above herself from an early age. It was this selfless, Christ-like attitude that helped her to be the most nurturing daughter, sister, wife, mother, Aunt, friend, and co-worker that anyone could ever ask for. Her loving and accepting spirit will be dearly missed.
Often described by family and friends as "just the sweetest", Gayle loved to smile and laugh. She was easy to talk to and comforting to be around. She often said, "if everybody else is happy, then I am happy".
Gayle was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Grady Jacoway, Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Cummings; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Grady Jacoway, Jr.; her husband, David Allen Patterson; her brother, H. Grady Jacoway III.
She is survived by her son, Matthew Jacoway Patterson; her brothers, Michael (Patricia) Jacoway and Steven (Constance) Jacoway. She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on June 13, 2026, at Bayside Baptist Church. There will be a visitation from 10:00 am to 11:30 am with a short memorial service to follow.
