                                                                    July 12, 1948 - September 21, 2025

On Sunday, September 21, 2025, Gayla Arlene Roberts Johnson went home to be with the Lord after a life well lived.

Gayla was born and raised in Cleveland, TN and returned later in life after moving to Woodbridge, NJ with her husband, Jerry Johnson. She graduated from Bradley Central High School in 1966, was employed by Olin Chemical, and was a lifelong member of South Cleveland Church of God.

Gayla lived the epitome of a grace-filled life! She always wore a smile and maintained her sense of humor even in the darkest of times. She was known for her impeccable sense of style and class, was a fantastic cook and baker, a romantic, and made everyone she met feel loved and special. Gayla genuinely loved and cared for her family and friends-praying for them and others' needs without ceasing. She loved fiercely and radiated a quiet strength and joy that could only be obtained through a life of faith. She was devoted to God and trusted in Him completely.

Her light and sweet spirit will be missed-for she was a true example of light in a world of darkness. There is no doubt she was received into the arms of Jesus with "Well done, thou good and faithful servant."

Gayla was preceded in death by her parents, Arthel and Frances Holloway Roberts; grandparents, William Arlie and Lena Roberts, John and Jessie Ogle Holloway; brothers-in-law, Jim Wales and Deryle Holloway; and pets Millie, Lucy, Buddy, and Rootie.

She was survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Jerry B. Johnson; siblings, Gary Kimsey (Sue), Geana Kimsey Wales, and Pam Roberts Stripling; sister-in-law, Martha Holloway; nieces, Kim Kimsey Mourfield (Joe), Karman Kimsey Millsaps (Andy), Keri Wales Evanyk (DeWayne), Amy Wales, Lindsey Stripling (god-daughter); many other great nieces and nephews; aunt, Joyce Allmon; uncle, Bob Holloway (Shirley); and pet, Rowdy.

In lieu of a formal service, there will be a private gathering with family.
