Gary Dwight
Vincent
March 23, 1950 – April 2, 2026
Gary Dwight Vincent, age 76, of Athens, Tennessee, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 2, 2026. Gary was born in Sweetwater, Tennessee, on March 23, 1950.
He was a longtime resident of Athens, where he was known for his warm smile and kind demeanor. Gary was a dedicated and hardworking man throughout his life. He once owned and operated a deli, where he shared his love of cooking, and later owned a real estate business for many years. In his later years, he became affectionately known as "Papaw" to his coworkers and regular customers at C & D Tire in Athens, and most recently served as a service advisor at L & M Motors.
Gary was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and had a deep love for the Lord. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, and watching and supporting the Georgia Bulldogs. Above all, Gary's greatest joy in life was his family.
He was a kind and caring soul who found joy in giving, whether through holiday gifts or simple, thoughtful messages to let others know they were loved and remembered. Gary never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He was deeply appreciative of every act of kindness shown to him and had a laugh that could light up any room.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Maxine Jones, and his brother-in-law, Johnny Knight, with whom he shared a close and special bond.
Gary is survived by his cherished wife of 26 years, Linda "Michelle" Vincent; his sons Nick Vincent and Austin Vincent and wife, Stephanie Vincent; his beloved grandchildren, Peyton and Emma Vincent; his mother- and father-in-law, Danny and Linda Moore; his sister-in-law, Melasawn Knight; his nephews and niece, Tyler Knight, Josh Knight and wife, Skylar Knight, and Amanda Owens and husband, Blake Owens, all of whom he loved dearly; his aunts and uncle-in-law, Kathy Hindman, and Ricky and Teresa Breedlove; along with many other extended family members and friends.
He also leaves behind his adored dogs, Gunner and Hazel.
In accordance with Gary's wishes, a private family memorial will be held at a later date.
Gary was a simple man, but the mark he left on this world was immeasurable. The love and impact he shared will live on in the hearts of those who knew him until they are reunited again.
Companion Funeral Home of Athens, Tennessee, is honored to assist the family during this time.
