Gary Caywood

Gary Lynn Caywood, born December 14, 1960, in Cleveland, TN, passed away peacefully May 27, 2025, surrounded by love. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Cathy; a proud father to his son, Adam, and grandfather to his cherished grandson, Asher. Gary's zest for life was infectious, and he warmly touched the hearts of all who knew him.

A passionate truck driver, Gary enjoyed the road and the countless friends he made along the way. He took great pride in his partnership with his best friend, Mike (Iaquita) Carroll, achieving over one million safe miles together. This lifelong friendship would span 23 years and include both Old Dominion and Shaw Freight. Life on the road was an adventure filled with laughter and camaraderie.

Beyond the highway, Gary was a state champion wrestler at Cleveland High School, where he would excel in baseball and football. He earned numerous awards and trophies that highlighted his competitive spirit. Gary was an avid lover of NASCAR and Braves Baseball, often sharing his enthusiasm with family and friends.

His main loves remained rooted in family, as he cherished each moment spent creating lasting memories. Whether on the road or in the stands, Gary's warmth and sense of fun brought people together, turning ordinary days into celebrations.

He is survived by his father Franklin Caywood; sisters Renee Leamon and Kim Carr; brother-in-law Darion Leamon; niece Alesha Phillips; nephews Austin and Alex Almazan; and step-sister Bridgette Slack. Gary's spirit will live on in the stories shared and the love he spread throughout his life.

Family and friends are invited to gather Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Companion Funeral Home Ridge Chapel between 11:00 and 1:00 to honor his legacy and vibrant life.
