In his early years, Garry found joy and purpose in life on the road as a long-haul truck driver, traveling as far as California and many other states. Raised on the 600-acre Murray family farm, he developed a strong work ethic and a natural talent for working the land-skills he carried into his career. His sharp eye for dirt work became his trademark and led him into public service, where he served as Assistant Road Superintendent of Bradley County for eight years. In that role, Garry earned the respect of many for his sound judgment, leadership, and expertise in road and bridge construction that benefited his community.

Family was Garry's greatest joy. He treasured vacations to Florida and the time spent with loved ones. After retirement, he found comfort in the quiet days spent with his beloved Janice, affectionately known as his "little woman." His unwavering devotion during her illness was a testament to their enduring love. Among his fondest memories were the many trips shared with his brother- and sister-in-law, Tommy and Anita McLain, whose shared love for history made every journey memorable.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Garry's life on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at the Shelli Cody Sanctuary with Companion Funeral Home, located at 2412 Georgetown Road NW, Cleveland, TN 37311.
