Frederick "Fred" Arthur Cote, 86, of Cleveland, Tennessee, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 22, 2026. He was born on December 2, 1939, in Rochester, New Hampshire, to the late Francis and Ruth Cote. Fred moved to Cleveland in 1990, where he proudly made his home for the past thirty-six years.
Fred's life is beautifully captured in Galatians 5:13-14: "You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"
Fred was a dedicated and hardworking man who spent many years with Norris Towing Company before his retirement. He faithfully served his community in New Hampshire as a firefighter, EMS provider, and public health inspector. In addition to his civilian service, Fred honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1961.
Fred's greatest joy was found in time spent with his family. "Papaw" was the title he cherished most, and he took immense pride in being Haley, Hannah, and Allie's Papaw. He will be remembered as a devoted family man with a servant's heart, faithfully committed to everything he did.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Ruth Cote of Rochester, New Hampshire , and his sister, Mary Fraizer of Cleveland, Tennessee.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Danny) Brooks; his son, Frederick A. Cote Jr.; and his beloved granddaughters, Haley Brooks, Hannah (Isaac) Camp, and Allie Brooks. He also is survived by the endeared mother of his children, Holly Burgoyne; and close family friend, Keisha Davis, all of Cleveland. In addition, he is survived by his cherished niece, Susie Frazier of Chattanooga.
While Fred's family grieves his passing, they also rejoice in his homegoing. The family will receive family and friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on May 9, 2026, at Bellefounte Baptist Church located at 132 Bellefounte Rd NE, Cleveland, TN 37312. A Celebration of Life service will follow the visitation, with Reverend Joe Brooks officiating.
You are invited to share a personal memory of Fred or your condolences with his family at his online memorial located at www.companionfunerals.com Companion Funeral and Cremation Service Cleveland Chapel and the Cody family are honored to assist the Cote Family with these arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Bellefounte Baptist Church Building Fund in Fred's honor.
