Fred Blaine Gregg, 89, of Charleston, Tennessee, peacefully passed on April 20, 2026.

Fred was born on December 4, 1936, in Parrottsville, Tennessee, and was the eldest of five brothers and sisters: Jack Gregg, Margaret Sue Ottinger, Maxine Gregg, and Judy Charlton.

Fred grew up in rural east Tennessee with a passion for learning. He was the first person in his family to gain a college degree. While earning his Bachelor's degree in Agriculture from the University of Tennessee, Fred also developed a lifelong love for debate, on virtually any topic. His desire for knowledge drove him back to the University to complete his Masters plus 45 designation in the 70's all while raising a family, farming his own land, and teaching.

Fred devoted his life to education and to his students, teaching Agriculture at Charleston High School for 37 years. During this time, Fred led an award winning FFA chapter inspiring many of his students to develop a love of farming.

On September 4, 1960, Fred married the love of his life, Virginia Duggan. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and faith.

Fred is survived by his loving wife, Virginia; his three children Mike, Steve, and Chris; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

His steady presence, dedication to his family, and years of service to the Charleston community will be remembered with gratitude and love. He will be missed as a husband, a father, and a friend.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 11:00 am at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pastor Steve Castle officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Calhoun United Methodist Church Food Pantry, Gentiva Hospice, or a charity of your choice. Your generosity will honor Fred's memory and provide support to those in need. The family deeply appreciates your kindness during this time.

You are invited to share a personal memory of Fred or your condolences with his family at his online memorial located at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral Home of Cleveland and the Cody family are honored to assist the family with these arrangements.
