Ernest "Joe" Cannon

On Monday Morning, September 7, 2026, Ernest Joe Cannon, 90, of Cleveland, TN, was called home to his eternal resting place, leaving behind a legacy of faith, honesty, hard work, and steadfast service. A devoted family man and servant of God, Joe spent his life walking humbly with the Lord. His quiet strength and commitment to his faith were evident to all who knew him, especially through his years of devoted service as a deacon and beloved Sunday school teacher at North Cleveland Baptist, where he was a longtime member.

Joe passed away peacefully at Avail Senior Living, surrounded by his boys. He would have celebrated his 91st birthday just 12 days later.

Joe retired from Olin Chemical after many years of dedicated work. Retirement, however, did not mean slowing down for Joe. He devoted much of his time to serving his church and others. He volunteered at the church, participated in several mission trips, and continued to find ways to serve others. His faith was not simply something he talked about; it was something he lived.

Above all, Joe was devoted to his family. He lovingly cared for his beloved wife after she was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, standing by her with patience, love, and unwavering devotion. He also treasured his role as a grandfather and loved spending time babysitting his grandchildren. His family was one of his greatest joys.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Glenna Still Cannon of Cleveland; his first wife, Stella Goodner Cannon; his beloved wife, Jean Cannon; two brothers, Ralph Cannon and Wendall Cannon; three sisters, Irene Vincent, Sue Cannon, and Jeane Cannon Casson; and his grandson, Taylor Cannon, all of Cleveland.

He is survived by his two sons, Ernie Cannon (Bambi) and Wade Cannon (Brittany); grandchildren, Duggan Cannon (Kiersten), Carson Cannon, Abbi Reese Cannon, and Greyson Cannon; great-grandchildren, Miles and Stella Cannon; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who loved him dearly.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 9, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Companion Funeral Home in the Ridge Sanctuary.

An intimate graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 10, at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Dr. Jay McClusky officiating.

Pallbearers will be Wade Cannon, Ernie Cannon, Duggan Cannon, Carson Cannon, and Greyson Cannon.

Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Joe's Sunday School class at North Cleveland Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Joe's memory to North Cleveland Baptist Church.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Avail Senior Living and Hearth Hospice for the kindness, care, and compassion shown to Joe and his family over the past two weeks.
