Ella Mae Moore, age 95, of Athens, passed away Monday, September 1, 2025, in Sweetwater, TN. She was born on June 4, 1930. Ella Mae served as a domestic in her younger years and attended church all her life, developing a strong faith in the Lord. She enjoyed singing for and praising God and praying over her greatest treasure, her family. Ella Mae possessed a bold, unwavering spirit, and she loved to cook, read her Bible, and watch her religious programs. Ella Mae loved her family and treasured her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took pride in their accomplishments. If Granny Ella Mae uttered one of her signature, enthusiastic "Wowl"s during a conversation with you, then you knew she was entirely focused on you! Ella Mae finally leaves behind a meaningful legacy of memories for her loved ones to cherish. She was a strong woman and a lively soul who persevered in satisfactory health with a sharp mind until the very end of her long life. Well done, thy good and faithful servant! She will be missed!
She is preceded in death by her mother & father, Rosa "Dunk" Lawrence & Jake Simpson; husband, James "Ed"ward Moore; sons, Timothy "Timmy" Wilkerson, Chris, Ronnie, Marcus, & Terrance "Wee-Wee" Smith; sisters, Betty Bee V. Lawrence, Pauline "Polly" Roby, and Minnie Simpson; brothers, William "Billy" & Jake Simpson, Jr.; nephew, Tommy Simpson; niece, Tammy Simpson; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Smith; son-in-law, Tony Moore.
Ella Mae is survived by her sons, James Bueford "J.B." & David Smith; daughter, Nancy Moore; 8 grandchildren - Erica L. Smith, Jason (Danielle) Gold, Victor Smith, Camille Moore, Jessica (Jermaine) Favors, Gabriel (Courtney) Moore, Nneka King, & Gucci Smith; 5 great-grandchildren - Kathryn "Kat" Favors, Alyssa Moore, Eric Brooks, Sir Isaac Davis, & Ella "Toot" Gold; brother, Jimmy "Jimbo" Simpson; niece, Betty Ann Nesmith, and a host of other beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, & special friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 7, 2025, from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at Redemptions to the Nations Church in Athens, TN, Minister Mae Hammonds, officiating. Interment in Lanetown Cemetery.
