Edward Allan McHugh (Ed), 73, of Knoxville, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 21, 2026, after bravely battling Parkinson's and cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Barbara McHugh, his son Zane Alexander McHugh and sister-in-law Lynn (McClelland) McHugh. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Judy Collins McHugh; step-daughter Valire Goforth; brothers Tom and Jeff McHugh; daughter-in-law Carleen Nobles McHugh Cuthell (Stephen); two grandchildren, Addison & Jackson McHugh; in-laws Julia & Guy Glisson, Myra & Jim Whitson; and many cousins, nieces, & nephews.
Ed attended the University of Tennessee and graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta. Ed and Judy met in 1970 and dated not each other, but each other's fraternity/sorority friends while attending UT. They reconnected and were married in 1991. Ed enjoyed music, sports, reading, tv, golfing, hiking, & traveling. He was a member of the Fat Boys, LLC golf group for 43yrs.
Professionally, he was a member of the ASCE and worked on engineering projects involving aviation, railroads, roadways and parking lot construction. Throughout his career, he was employed at Barge Waggoner, Sumner & Cannon; Lockwood Greene Engineers; Greenville, Greene Co., TN Municipal Airport; and Michael Baker International, from which he retired.
A small, private service will take place this fall. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to favorite charities or to churches such as The Healing Room of Knoxville or Cokesbury United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be left at http://www.companionfunerals.com.
