Eddie "Shotgun" Dunlap, age 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Ten Mile, TN. He was a lifelong East Tennessee resident, growing up in Walland.

A hard working man with a heart as grand as the East Tennessee mountains, Eddie spent 42 years behind the wheel as a truck driver, logging millions of miles across the country. For 30 of those years, he drove for C&C Trucking in Maryville alongside his best friend, Tony Hughes. Known to his friends and fellow drivers across the airwaves simply as "Shotgun", Eddie was a legend on the highway, respected for his dedication, strong work ethic, and steady presence on the road.

When he wasn't behind the wheel, Eddie found joy and his greatest peace in the outdoors. He had a deep love for horses and the excitement of running barrels. He spent countless peaceful days trout fishing along the Tellico River. Above all else, Eddie was a family man that went above and beyond for those he loved.

Eddie is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Joy Dunlap; his daughter and son in law Bridget and Chris; his son Matt; along with additional children; many grandchildren including Angel "Bug" Dunlap. He is also survived by his sisters, Peggy Russell and companion Gary, Liz Coatney and husband Carl, and Kathy Burnette and her husband Dickie.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Grace Dunlap; his brothers Freddie Dunlap and Rick Dunlap; his sister Brenda Dunlap Potter; his favorite aunt Gertrude Williamson, and his lifelong best friend and driving partner Tony Hughes.

The family extends a special, heartfelt thank you to Margaret Hammond, Josh Cornelius, UT Primary Care-specifically Kayla and Chase, Amanda Douglas, Adoration Hospice for the care and dignity provided- especially nurse Kathy, and Companion Funeral Home.

Eddie has hung up his keys and completed his final haul home. Though the highway seems a little quieter without him, his strength, laughter, and legacy will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved him.

10-4 Shotgun. Rest easy- we'll take it from here.
