Edith Lucille Mizner Newman

March 29, 1933 — February 23, 2021

Edith Lucile Mizner Newman was born March 29, 1933, in Redondo Beach, California, the youngest child of Hiram and Ethel Forbes Mizner. She passed to her rest, February 23, 2021, in Calhoun, Tennessee. One of six children, she was preceded in death by sisters Margaret and Violet, and brothers, Glen, Loren and Marion. She spent her childhood in Gardena, California.

Edith met her future husband, Martin, when she visited a Sundry store in Gardena where her neighbor worked and where Martin also worked. He volunteered to help her with Geometry and so their lives were sealed. Edith and Martin Newman married August 26, 1950, in Quartzsite, Arizona, shortly before Martin was drafted into the Service. After Martin got out of the Service, they spent several years in Laramie, Wyoming, where Martin studied and graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Pharmacy degree. They moved to Riverside, California, where Martin was the pharmacist at the local hospital and they raised their family. He and Edith had 4 children: Ron Newman of Ashland, Kentucky, Kathy Sturm of Calhoun, Tennessee, Jim Newman of Redig, South Dakota and Linda Hibbert of Riverside, California. In addition to her children and their families, she is survived by 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Edith and “Marty” had been married 54 years when Martin passed away in 2004. Through all those years, one of their most treasured activities had been to go to the San Diego Zoo.

Edith loved to take care of her family and their home. If you were around her as she worked around her home doing all the things needed to take care of her family, you would hear her softly humming contentedly. She was an expert seamstress and sewed clothes for her children and many other friends and family over the years.

A few years after Martin’s death, Edith moved to Calhoun, Tennessee, to be near her daughter, Kathy. She lived with Kathy until her passing.
Edith was a member of the Benton Seventh-day Adventist Church. She loved her God, her family and her church. Her greatest desire was to be reunited with each one for eternity. She now rests in the arms of the God she loved, awaiting the resurrection morning.

“Who can find a virtuous woman? For her worth is far above rubies.”
