Eddie "Ed" Dean Thoreson, 76, of Athens, Tennessee, passed away on April 19, 2026.

Ed proudly served his country in the United States Army for eight years. Following his military service, he dedicated his career to the railroad, where he worked as an engineer until his retirement.

Preceded in death by father, Elsworth Thoreson; mother, Zita Thoreson; and brother in-law, Chuck Tarr.

Survivors include his daughter, Rachelle (Steve) Eddington; Rachelle's mother, Susie Cooley; grandchildren, Jessica (Will) Watkins, Caitlyn (Zach Womac) McDaniel; step grandchildren, Kayla (Colby) Thorton, Rachael (Cody Sullender) Johnson; great grandchildren, Mason Watkins, MaKenzie Watkins, Sutton Womac, Will Thorton, Zeke Johnson, and Millie Thorton; sisters, Lillian Tarr, Margaret Arp, and Dorothy Dean all of Illinois; and many nieces, nephews and other loved family and friends.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 at Companion Funeral Home of Athens.
