Douglas Mitchell (Doug) Wright, 65, a resident of Cleveland departed this life on Sunday, December 25, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on June 16, 1951 to the late Hoyt and Nannie Ensley Wright. He was of the Baptist Faith. Prior to his illness and retirement, he was employed for several years with Walmart on Treasury Drive in the Sporting Goods Department. Prior places of employment included Cleveland Chair Company and Magic Chef; he was always a faithful employee. Doug was an avid sports fan and had played as quarterback for Bradley Central High School. He also played church softball for many years and was a Tennessee Vols Football fan. He also liked to hunt and fish, but Doug’s greatest love and enjoyment was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Doug was preceded in death by a brother Billy Hoyt Wright. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 41 years Donna Geren Wright; three sons: Douglas Lynn Wright, Ryan Matthew Wright, and Andy Jason Wright and his wife Wendy Canterbury Wright, and three grandchildren Emily, Mia, and Grayson who were the joy of his life. He is also survived by two sisters Carol Walker of Riceville and Brenda Lee and husband Jimmy (Pat) Lee; three brothers: Paul Ronald Wright, Jerry Dean Wright, and Roger Dale Wright all of Cleveland; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He has one surviving aunt, Helen Stewart of Lake City, Florida.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00pm on Friday December 30, 2016 at The Church at Grace Point located at 2575 Old Freewill Road, Cleveland, TN 37312 with Pastor Dr. Phil Griffin officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00am to 2:00pm at the church. Interment will follow the service at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Lynn Wright, Andy Wright, Ryan Wright, Jamie Thurman, Roger Wright, and Dean Wright will serve as pallbearers. Ronald Wright will serve as honorary pallbearer.
