The roll was call up yonder and Dorothy (Dot) Brimer Stephens counted herself present after the Atlanta Braves played a day game and Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! signed off on April 30. She was 88 years old.
Dot was born in Newnan, Georgia on November 17, 1937, the daughter of the late Maynard and Clara Brimer. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Couch and Hazel Duncan and son-in-law, Howie Tallent.
She was retired from AT&T where she would gladly tell you that was retired longer than she had worked and spent her happy years traveling across the country and chasing her grandchildren and great grandchildren around. She loved to Square Dance and loved her church, First Baptist of Cleveland.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Walter Levi Stephens. Also Kenny Stephens (Cindy), two daughters; Kay McMahan (Hal) and Melanie Tallent (John Johnson). She was also blessed with six grandchildren; Amanda Duvall, Mark Stephens, Melissa Douglas, Shannon Tallent, Jeremy Tallent and Harry McMahan. Plus eleven Great Grandchildren.
A joyous homecoming service will be held at Companion Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 12 at 11:30 a.m. Visitation at 9:30 a.m. with interment to follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Gibson officiating Companion Funeral Home of Cleveland is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Generations Fund at First Baptist Church of Cleveland, Tennessee.
The family would also like to express their utmost thanks to the staff of Legacy Village of Cleveland and to Hearth Hospice for the loving care they provided Mrs. Dottie in her final days.
