Obituary

DeWayne Edward Cheek, 62, a resident of Georgetown, TN passed away on Wednesday, September 18th, 2013 at his home. DeWayne is a lifelong resident of this area. He was born in Cleveland, TN on May 24th, 1951 a son of the late J. D. & Louis Cheek. DeWayne was an honorable discharged veteran of the United States Army having faithfully served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a long time employee of the Cleveland Chair Company. DeWayne loved the great outdoors including fishing, coaching a local softball team for six plus years and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Above all, DeWayne loved spending time with his granddaughter Amery.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two grandchildren Jeremi & Kaylee Gunther and one sister Lois Cheek.

DeWayne leaves behind to cherish his memory his faithful companion for thirty five years Darlene Cheek, one daughter and son-in-law Shanna & James Lunsford, one granddaughter Amery Gunther, two sisters Sue Shoemaker (Ronnie) and Hazel Colachicco (Jimmy), and four brothers Ricky Cheek (Kim), Robert Cheek (Barbara), Johnny Cheek (Marcella) and Danny Cheek (Shirley). He is also survived by a special niece Rhonda Cheek and special friend Ted Childress, numerous other extended family members and a host of special friends.

A celebration of his life is planned for Thursday, September 26th, 2013 at 6:00 PM at the Bethel Baptist Church located at 2514 Old Chattanooga Pike in Cleveland, TN with the Reverend Dewayne Hamby and the Reverend Bruce Compton officiating. Interment will take place on Friday, September 27th, 2013 at the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 11:30 AM and will conclude with full military honors.
