Dennis Schreiner passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on December 20, 2025 in Collegedale Tennessee after his brave 15 month battle with cancer. He was born on March 2, 1954 in Richmond Virginia. He attended Richmond Jr. Academy from 1968-1970 and graduated in 1972 from Powell County High School, Stanton Kentucky. In 1980, he attended Southern Missionary College studying for a degree in Theology while working at the Village Market. In 1987, he attended Memphis State University pursuing a degree in Social Work while working nights at a Suicide Crisis Center assisting people during their most vulnerable time of need. He spent the first portion of his working career in the construction industry honing his craft to "measure twice, cut once" as a master craftsman. In 1997, he returned to Southern Adventist University as the Director of the Service Department and spent the next 23 years serving and working with students from all walks of life. He thoroughly enjoyed mentoring and joking with the hundreds of students and crew that passed through his office over the many years.
His spare time was filled with travel, photography, biking, hiking, family, and continuing to enjoy his woodworking craft. He was rarely stationary, unless sitting beside a roaring campfire enjoying a quiet moment. He was an excellent teacher, wonderful husband, loving father and Opa, a hilarious companion, and an ever competitive hiker and biker (leaving us all in his dust with a smile on his face).
He was preceded in death by his father Leroy, mother Dorothy, and brothers Jimmie and Ronnie. He is survived by his wife Kathy of 35 years, son Austin (Katrina) and grandchildren Lyla, Jakob, Georgia; daughter KD Owens (Ryan) and soon-to-be granddaughter Olivia, and a multitude of other loving family and friends.
For those who would like to join the family in a celebration of his life the service will be held on January 31, 2026, at 3:30pm at the Collegedale SDA Church.
