Listen to Obituary

Aldric “Denis” Howton, 72, of Ringgold, GA, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026. He was born on June 12, 1953, in Casco, Michigan, to the Sarah “Grace” Chalcraft Howton. Denis proudly served his country in the United States Army for two tours in Germany where he received multiple awards and recognitions including the National Defense Service Medal, Safe Driver Badge with Bar, and Marksman Badge on the M-16 Rifle. During his time of service, he was honored for his outstanding performance as a soldier who exhibited exceptional ability in his devotion to his leadership duties to those he served with. Following his service, Denis moved to Florida before eventually settling in North Georgia. He was a lover of classic country music. You could always find Denis in his pearl button flannels, never without his cowboy hat and boots, and soaking in the lyrics to Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson with a fishing pole in his hands.

In addition to his mother, Denis was preceded in death by his brother, Lonnie Howton.

He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Howton Allen; grandsons, Nicholas Matthew Edward Stacey and Dillon Gauge Walker; siblings, Adair, Yvonne, Roxanne, Lionel, and Diane; niece, Patti Bell; great-niece, Kim Nguyen; and a host of extended family members.

Denis will be laid to rest in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in Denis' name.
