David Philip VanderVeen

David Philip VanderVeen, 70, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on July 9, 2026, at Parkwest Medical Center after battling with Stage IV melanoma. He passed surrounded by those he loved most.

Born on October 21, 1955, to Harold and Louise VanderVeen, David lived a life defined by unwavering faith, love, kindness, and service to others. He was a devoted husband, treasured father, trusted mentor, and loyal friend whose influence will continue to be felt for generations.

David shared 48 wonderful years of marriage with his wife and together they built a home centered on faith, family, and unconditional love. He was a proud and loving father to his three children.

Those who knew David will remember his gentle spirit, patient heart, and steadfast character. He had a remarkable ability to encourage others, offering wisdom, guidance, and friendship whenever it was needed. Above all, David was a man after God's own heart, striving to live his life humbly according to his faith and sharing Christ's love through his actions, words, and example.

David's legacy is one of grace, compassion, and devotion. He leaves behind a family and sister who cherished him deeply, and countless lives that were touched by his kindness and mentorship.

Though his family grieves his passing, they find comfort in the promise of eternal life and rejoice knowing that David is now healed and at peace in the presence of his Heavenly Father.

"By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person's work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved-even though only as one escaping through the flames.

1 Corinthians 3:10-15

The family will receive friends and family for Visitation on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, Tennessee. A Celebration of Life service will immediately follow at 4:00 p.m.

David will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. His legacy of faith, love, patience, and service will continue to inspire those whose lives were blessed by his presence.
