David Richard Martin, age 69, of Calhoun, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 15, 2026. Born on October 28, 1956, he was the son of the late Willie Mae and Albert T. Martin.
David was of the Baptist faith and was known as a hardworking man, he worked for many years as a tractor mechanic with Dooley Tractor Company; he was also a man who deeply loved fishing and spending time with his family. A true homebody, he found peace and comfort at home and rarely ventured out unless necessary. David was funny, witty, and generous - the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Irene Key, Mary Ricker, and James Martin.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Amy (Jeremy) Martin and David (Amanda) Martin; grandchildren, Logan, Hunter, Malachi, Abby, Allie, Eli, and Raelynn Martin; great-grandchildren, Naomi, Justin, Athena, and Adalyn Martin; siblings, Joe (Phyllis) Hamby and Loretta Martin; along with several extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday at the Chapel of Companion Funeral Home in Athens, Tennessee, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 PM, officiated by Rev. Vernon Webb.
Anyone wishing to make donations toward David's funeral expenses may do so by calling Companion Funeral Home or visiting any Companion Funeral Home location in person.
Interment will follow immediately after the service at Maple Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Tellico Plains.
The staff of Companion Funeral Home of Athens and the Cody Family are honored to assist the family with these arrangements.
