He attended the first classes of Cleveland State Community College which met at North Cleveland Baptist Church moved to the newly constructed campus in 1968. He later finished his Associate of Science Degree while working and raising his family. Education was very important to him, and he always encouraged his children and grandchildren to attend as much school as the possibly could and helped to fund all their education endeavors.
Danny was one of the hardest working men who ever lived. He held many jobs throughout his life beginning at the age of 12 working on neighboring farms, at the local service station, roofing work in Dalton, in the lab at the Peerless Woolen Mill, as a Sales rep for Frito lay, did construction work building homes with friends, J.A and Charlie Hysinger (H & N Construction Co), and many years at Olin/Arch working in the lab - even going back to assist with special project after retiring. Danny also was very giving of his time helping others. Much of this was accomplished by giving blood every month for many years (1961-2016) when he had to stop due to health issues. He volunteered his time for almost 10 years by mowing and landscaping the grounds of the Boys & Girls Club Tucker Unit.
Church and Christian faith was also very important to Danny. He began attending Hopewell Baptist Church as a young boy when the family moved to Cleveland. He was very active in the Brotherhood men's group, he was a Royal Ambassador leader, a Sunday school teacher, an usher, and a deacon. He helped construct the new church building and helped with any maintenance or landscaping that was necessary. In 1982 the family joined Westwood Baptist Church. He faithfully attended Sunday School and services. He volunteered his time and energy through long hours helping maintain the ground and many years as a greeter for morning worship services.
Danny was always very active exercising and working around the home. He and Linda enjoyed traveling to many places in Europe, South America, Australia, and New Zealand. They also went on several cruises. They were delighted to be accompanied on these trips with Eddie and Cheryl Wilson.
A small graveside funeral service will be held at the Hopewell Cemetery with his brother, Minister Gary Nelson leading the service for family and close friends.
