Danny Shaw Buchanan, age 75, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 25, 2025, at his home in Knoxville, Tennessee surrounded by family. He was a member of the Social Services Board, the Industrial Development Authority, and the Virginia Rural Water Association in Wise County, Virginia. He served as President of the Virginia Rural Water Association and represented Virginia on its National Rural Water Board for many years.
In his spare time, he enjoyed playing piano, hunting, fishing, golfing, watching Westerns, flying model airplanes, and flying real planes, as he was a licensed private pilot.
He is survived by his wife, Treva (Thomas) Buchanan; his sister, Susan (Buchanan-Powers) Holt and husband Bobby Holt; a son, Aaron Buchanan and a wife, Solmarie Buchanan; a daughter, Allison (Buchanan) Walker and husband Steven Walker; and a grand-daughter, Zoe Elizabeth Walker, and a nephew, Brett Powers.
Special thanks to the doctors and staff members of Vanderbilt Hospital who kindly and lovingly cared for him for his 13-year cancer journey, specifically Dr. Sally York, Dr. Evan Ozmondson, and special friend Sherry Vick, as well as Covenant Health's hospice staff (Beth and Jane), and friend and caretaker Bridgette.
Family and friends whose lives Danny touched are invited to Companion Funeral Home at 653 Briarcliff Avenue in Oak Ridge, Tennessee on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, from 3:00-5:00pm to reminisce, grieve, support one other, and, of course, laugh about his antics. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer center to support cancer research and patient care. Visit <vicc.org/giving> to donate.
