Curtis "Scott" Nelson, entered the gates of Heaven on February 21, 2026 and joined his loved ones who have gone prior to him- his beloved parents, Juel & Joseph "Judd" Nelson; his sister Katie Kyker, and the love of his life, Martina "Tina" Nelson.

In this life you could scarcely meet a more kind and gentle man who never met a stranger and he was always ready to lend a helping hand.

Scott was a proud veteran of the United States Army who honorably served his country during the Vietnam War, spending most of his time in Germany.

If you were blessed enough to know Scott, you knew he loved to talk! He had 4 subjects he loved to talk about and if you had a minute or two to spare, he enjoyed nothing more than to bend your ear about any one of them. He could talk for hours about the Lord Jesus Christ and all the things he had done for him in his life, where he had brought him from, and who he made him to be; he loved to talk about his family, his grandkids especially, his late wife, Tina and all the sweet memories made. He adored his best friends, his dog, Gotti and his cat, Robert; he loved showing off photos of them! But quite possibly his favorite subject was sports; quite literally, if there was a ball involved, he loved it, especially if it had to do with the UT VOLS - He loved all things Volunteers! Scott was also a cherished member of Sonrise Assembly of God in Madisonville for many years.

Scott leaves behind his beloved son, Joshua Nelson (Chassity); step-sons, Jeff Murray (Annaliese), Duane Murray, and Michael McLemore; daughter-in-love Kimberly Rolen; grandchildren: Shawna Richesin (Brady), Amber, Jackson, Garrett, Gavin, Gideon, and Gibson Murray, Aden Kamps, and Timber Plaugher; niece and nephew, Kayla Herron and Travis Kyker; his fur babies, Gotti and Robert; and many friends and extended family members who will all sadly miss him, but they all find comfort in knowing he is much happier now than they can ever imagine!

A memorial service for Scott will be held at Sonrise Assembly of God (876 Englewood Rd., Madisonville, TN 37354) on Monday, March 9, 2026 at 11 a.m. officiated by Dennis Banks and Ben Murray. The United States Army will be present for military honors.

In Lieu of Flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Scott's name and memory to the Wounded Warrior Project or make a donation to the Sonrise Assembly of God Church in his honor.

Companion Funeral Home of Athens and the Cody Family are honored to assist Scott's family during this time.
