Listen to Obituary

Cassie Solon Swihart, age 74, of Sweetwater, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at her residence on February 10, 2026. She was born on May 4, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late William "Bill" Gibbs and Marianna Hall Gibbs.

Cassie graduated from nursing school as a Registered Nurse in 1971 and dedicated herself to her nursing career. Her passion for caring for others took her across the world. She traveled to Japan, where she worked as an occupational health nurse beginning in 1985, later serving at Pearl Harbor Naval Base in Hawaii as a nurse. After many years of faithfully giving her all to her profession, she retired in 1998.

Cassie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved arts and crafts, playing cards, reading, and watching old-fashioned movies and musicals. She especially cherished traveling alongside her husband of 41 years, David, whose service in the United States Marine Corps was a central part of their lives together. Their journey took them to Japan-where she loved camping-Hawaii, North Carolina, Maryland, Indiana, and finally to Tennessee.

Family meant everything to Cassie. She treasured family gatherings and held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren. Cassie was a devoted member of the Catholic community. She was kind, loving, and generous, always willing to help anyone in need. In retirement, she volunteered with CASA Monroe in Sweetwater, Tennessee, advocating for children in foster care.

Cassie is survived by her devoted husband, David Leroy Swihart; her children, Michael, Sarah, and Sally; five grandchildren; her beloved fur baby, Oliver; and numerous extended family members and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Marianna Gibbs; her brother, William T. Gibbs; and her granddaughter, Jeana Rose Swihart.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 15, 2026, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Companion Funeral Home in Athens, Tennessee. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 4:00 p.m. In accordance with Cassie's wishes, she will be cremated, and no burial will take place.
