Carolyn Jenell Payton

Carolyn Jenell Payton, 72, of Decatur, Tennessee passed away peacefully on Friday, September 18, 2026.

Carolyn was born on August 26, 1954 in Huntsville, Alabama to the late Ellen Nix & Jerry Robert Nix. She was a wonderful mother and such a giving person. Nell loved working outside and was always working on projects with her sister Joann.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband William Jerry Payton. Her newborn son William Jerry Payton Jr. Grandson, Noah Robert Payton. Brother, Anthony Nix and sisters Freida Hopkins and Janice Nix.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Terry Robert Payton (Shannon); daughter Jeriann Cramer (Jason); Grandchildren, Cody (Katie), Destiny (Corey), Emma (Garrett) and Gabe; She was blessed with 5 great grandchildren, Andi, Levi, Jax, Everleigh, and Jay. Sisters - Joann (Buddy), and Darlene; her brothers, Ricky (Judy), Randy (Joann), and Troy; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, Septemebr 26, 2026 from 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Companion Funeral Home - The Cleveland Chapel.

A private family graveside will be held at a later date with Pastor Mike Davis officiating.

Terry Payton, Jason Cramer, Cody Cramer, Garrett Wheeler, Corey McNabb, and Gabe Payton will serve as pallbearers.
