Carolyn
Latham
Mar 16, 1944 — Aug 17, 2026
Carolyn Upton Latham, age 82, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, August 17, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Carolyn was born in 1944 in Sweetwater, Tennessee, the second of seven children born to Tom and Margaret Upton. She attended High Point School and married her high school sweetheart, Otis Latham, on December 14, 1962.
Carolyn had a sweet and kind heart and was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She extended that same generosity to her entire community. Carolyn provided health care, childcare, food, shelter, guidance, and acceptance to everyone from her heart and her home.
Carolyn spent many years working in food service at several restaurants in Sweetwater and at the Sweetwater Convalescent Home.
In 2000, Carolyn and her husband Otis, dedicated their lives to the Lord Jesus Christ. Wonderful changes were made in her life, marriage, and home. They joined Sweetwater Bible Church and devoted the rest of their lives to serving Christ. Carolyn often rejoiced about how much better her later years were than her early years.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Margaret Upton; and her five grandchildren: Chris Upton, Deonta Lamont Latham, Nashawn Micheal Latham, Legend Annessa Latham, and Aaron O'Neil McCroskey.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Otis Latham; four sons, Marlon Latham, Charles Latham, Otis Latham Jr., and Travis Latham, all of Sweetwater; step-daughter, Renē Jones of Harrisburg, PA; step-son, Dustin Latham of Sweetwater; 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She is also survived by her siblings, Freddie (Edna) Harrison of Philadelphia, TN, Bruce Upton, Alan Upton, Sandra Hawkins, Orlando Upton, and Victor Upton, all of Sweetwater; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a community full of friends.
A memorial service for Carolyn will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Sweetwater Bible Church. Reverend Burchon Walker will officiate.
The family thanks Companion Funeral & Cremation Service of Athens, TN.
