Clinton J. "Butch" Davis

Clinton J. "Butch" Davis passed away peacefully at home on Signal Mountain, Tennessee, on Easter Sunday, surrounded by his family and the compassionate care of hospice. He was 84 years old.

Born and raised in Florida, Butch graduated from Fletcher High School on Jacksonville Beach in 1960 and later attended the University of Florida on a football scholarship playing linebacker. He was also proud to serve as a Jacksonville Beach lifeguard, a role that reflected the strength, discipline, and confidence that would define him throughout his life.

Butch began his career in the glass industry in 1964 and spent more than three decades building a respected professional life before retiring. He managed a glass company serving the Southeast, working closely with architects and contractors to help bring glass buildings and commercial projects to life. His work demanded precision, judgment, and the ability to earn the trust of people across many job sites, and Butch brought his steady confidence and practical know-how to every project.

Though he accomplished many things during his lifetime, Butch was most proud of the relationships he built and the people he loved. He had a larger-than-life presence and a quick wit. He loved planning overseas trips with Brenda and their closest friends, turning travel into another way to gather people together, share stories, and create lasting memories. Whether reminiscing about his younger days on the Florida coast, offering advice, or doing flips into the pool at age 50 just to prove he still could, Butch brought energy, humor, and confidence into every room and every gathering.

In the late 1970s, Butch made Tennessee his home, and in 1981 he married the love of his life, Brenda C. Davis. Together they shared more than four decades of love, partnership, laughter, and unwavering commitment. Through life's challenges and joys, they remained devoted to one another and built a home centered on family.

Those who knew Butch remember a man who valued hard work, loyalty, and perseverance. He enjoyed reminiscing about his athletic days and carried the same determination throughout his life. He was someone family members could count on for support, wisdom, and encouragement. His greatest legacy is the love he gave and the example he set for those around him.

He was preceded in death by his parents George P. Davis and Iris Norris Davis, sister and his daughter, Kim Davis of Jacksonville.

He was survived by his beloved wife, Brenda C. Davis; daughter Deborah (Debbie) Davis of Orlando, Florida; stepsons James Lynch and John Lynch; and many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

A celebration of life will be held for Butch and Brenda at Signal Mountain Golf and Country Club at 4:00 p.m, on Saturday, September 26, 2026. Gather to reminisce and tell stories about Butch Davis, beloved Father, Husband, and Friend!

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Jolley, Memorial Heart Institute, and the caregivers of Hearth Hospice for their kindness, compassion, and exceptional care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Journey Health Foundation of Chattanooga or the American Heart Association in Butch Davis’s honor.
