Brenda C. Davis

The family of Brenda C. Davis is deeply saddened to announce her passing on July 31, 2026, in the compassionate care of hospice.

Brenda C. Davis lived a life that was as vibrant, organized, and full of flavor as her famous 4th of July neighborhood parties. She passed away leaving behind a legacy of warmth, spectacular entertaining, and a family that she cared for fiercely.

From the very beginning, Brenda was a force to be reckoned with. Right after high school, she traded small-town life of Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee for the fast lane, moving to Washington, D.C., to work for the FBI under J. Edgar Hoover. If she kept any government secrets from those days, she took them with her, but her sharp mind and determination were obvious to anyone who knew her. She later brought that same leadership energy to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville (UTK), where she served as the proud president of her Delta Zeta Sorority.

Brenda believed in hard work and excelled at multitasking. While working and raising her two boys, she managed to obtain her master’s in education from University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC). She channeled her passion for shaping young minds into a beautiful 28-year teaching career, which began in Head Start at Edward’s Point and culminated in her retirement as a beloved kindergarten teacher at Signal Mountain Elementary. To generations of students, she wasn't just a teacher; she was the legendary host of the end-of-the-year school pool parties, a tradition that cemented her status as the coolest kindergarten teacher around.

in 1981 she married the love of her life, Butch Davis. Together they shared more than 44 years of love, partnership, laughter, and unwavering commitment. Through life’s challenges and joys, they remained devoted to one another and built a home centered on family.

When she wasn't managing a classroom or a busy household, Brenda threw herself into her true passions: decorating, gardening, and entertaining. She had an eye for beauty and a gift for hospitality, ensuring that her home was always welcoming and her gardens were always blooming. Her love for learning eventually stretched far beyond her community. She was fascinated by overseas destinations—particularly fine porcelain factories—and loved nothing more than convincing her favorite travel partner, Butch, to pack their bags and take her there to see them firsthand.

Brenda’s bright spirit, her eye for design, and her love for a good celebration will be deeply missed by her family, her neighbors, and her closest friends who had the privilege of sitting on her screened porch.

She was preceded in death by her parents John W. Clift and Frances Lewis Clift; sisters, Agnes Coates, Alma Clift, Nina Lewis (Florida), Goldie Templeton; brother, Lowell Clift and her stepdaughter, Kim Davis of Jacksonville.

She was survived by her son’s; James (Jim) Lynch and John Lynch, stepdaughter Deborah (Debbie) Davis of Orlando, Florida; daughter-in-law’s Teresa Williams-Lynch and Susie Lynch; grandchildren Cooper Lynch, Claire Lynch, Trevor Lynch, Colon Lynch, Ashley Vasseur, Kailin Glenn, Trevor Glenn and many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.

A celebration of life will be held for Brenda and Butch at Signal Mountain Golf and Country Club from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2026. Gather to reminisce and tell stories about Brenda Davis, beloved Mother, Wife, Aunt and Friend!

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Jolley, Memorial Heart Institute, and the caregivers of Hearth Hospice for their kindness, compassion, and exceptional care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Journey Health Foundation of Chattanooga or the American Heart Association in Brenda Davis’s honor.
