Bonnie Louise Bowling, age 86, was born on May 8, 1939, in Logan, West Virginia. She lived a life defined by perseverance, faith, and deep devotion to her family, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and service that will be cherished by all who knew her.
Bonnie passed away on January 13, 2026, surrounded by family at the Life Care Center of America in Cleveland, Tennessee, where she had resided for the past year. During this time, she was deeply loved and tenderly cared for-a reflection of the strong bonds she built throughout her life.
Raised in West Virginia, Bonnie's early years instilled in her a strong work ethic and enduring values. She earned an associate degree in Nutrition from Cleveland State University, which supported a meaningful and impactful career. Bonnie worked as a culinary chef, serving as restaurant manager at the Cleveland Country Club, and later as manager over the cafeterias at Bradley High School and Cleveland High School. She was especially known for creating specialized desserts for diabetic and kidney-failure patients, a labor of love that reflected both her skill and compassion. She was admired and loved by colleagues, students, and all those she served.
Bonnie was a woman who never gave up, who persevered through life's challenges, and who lived with steadfast faith. Outside of her professional life, she found great joy in gardening-especially nurturing daylilies and hydrangeas-raising chickens, and tending her beautiful vegetable garden. Cooking was both her passion and her gift, one she generously shared with family and friends.
She was most proud of her family and her ability to nourish others, both at the table and through her presence. Bonnie will be remembered for her sweet, intelligent conversation, her treasured recipes, and the quiet wisdom she shared with those around her.
Bonnie leaves behind to cherish her memory her three siblings: Grant Lee Hall (Marian), Patricia Gail Sprouse Petty of West Bank, WV, and Margaret Correll (James) of Athens, TN; her children: Kathy Sue Bowling True (Dewayne) of Cleveland, TN; Darryl Ray Bowling (Mary) of Buckhead, GA; Ralph Dale Bowling (Ligia) of Cleveland, GA; Karol Lynn Bowling Disher (Martin) of Suches, GA; David Lee Bowling (Elise) of Port Richey, FL; and Thomas Lanier Bowling (Summer) of Decatur, TN; as well as 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, all of whom were a great source of joy in her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Bowling ; her brother, David Lynn Hall; and her brother, James Wayne Hall.
A celebration of life service will be held at Companion Funeral Home, located at 2415 Georgetown Road, Cleveland, TN on Monday, January 19th , 10-12 visitation, funeral at 12 Noon p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in honor of Bonnie's generous spirit and lifelong care for others.
The family extends a heartfelt and special thank you to her eldest daughter, Kathy T., for seven years of loving care in her home and for her unwavering daily presence at the nursing home. No words can fully express the gratitude held for this selfless devotion.
Bonnie Louise Bowling will be remembered for the love she shared, the strength she embodied, the meals she lovingly prepared, and the enduring legacy
