Birdie Mantooth Wright Carson passed away peacefully at home in Chattanooga on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. She is survived by her husband Lynn Carson, who was always by her side.
Born May 3, 1941, Birdie was a lifelong resident of Southeast Tennessee. She was the youngest child of Chester (Mary) Mantooth of Oldfort, TN and was preceded in death by four brothers and six sisters. She is survived by dozens of Mantooth nieces and nephews, many of whom remain local to this area. She was also preceded in death by her first husband John F. Wright, Jr. ("Jack") and is survived by their son John F. Wright, III, daughter-in-law Melissa, and twin grandsons Matthew and Benjamin of Ringgold, Georgia.
A graduate of Polk County High School in Benton, Tennessee, Birdie was the salutatorian of her 1959 class. She spent most of her career at the Electric Power Board in Chattanooga, retiring in 2003 after over 40 years of service. She was a member of Ooltewah Church of Christ, where donations may be sent in her memory in lieu of flowers.
Birdie and Lynn spent much of her time in retirement visiting and occasionally traveling with dear friends from their church, and she was a regular at her grandsons' soccer games and band concerts. In keeping with her wishes, no funeral service is planned, but she will be greatly missed by her friends and family from the different seasons of life she enjoyed over the course of 84 years.
