Obituary

Mrs. Barbara G Yancey,80, a current resident of Lafayette, GA passed away on Friday, July 11th, 2014. She lived in Valdosta GA for some 50 years. Born and raised in the Eastman/Rentz GA community. Graduated Mercer College in Macon GA where she majored in History. She met and married her husband at Mercer where he was studying law and was also enlisted in the army. He finished his army tour overseas in Italy during the Korean war while she was based in West Virginia. After his tour of duty was finished Mr. Yancey met his law partner at St. Simons Island and ended up in Valdosta GA in 1958. She moved to Lafayette GA in September 2012 to live out her days in the home of her daughter Jill Y Hill. She raised 4 children in Valdosta and settled with her family there as her home. She was preceded in death by her parents Mr. & Mrs. Jack Grinstead, her husband Reuben H. Yancey, her oldest daughter Linda Y. Barham and oldest son Chip Yancey. Survivors are James T. Yancey, son, Jill Y Hill, daughter and grandchildren Eddie Barham, Jason Barham, RJ Yancey, Mathew Yancey and Lori J Hill and 5 great grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, July 19th, 2014 at the McLain Funeral Home in Valdosta, GA at 10:00 AM. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery in Valdosta.
