Barbara Mae Thomas, age 88, of Monroe County, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on August 14, 2026, while residing at Quality Center for Rehabilitation and Healing in Lebanon, Tennessee. She was born in Madisonville, Tennessee, on March 28, 1938.
Barbara attended Oasis Ministries in Riceville, Tennessee. She was a feisty lady with a big personality and an even bigger grin, always greeting her friends and family with a smile. Barbara enjoyed tending to her flowers in the garden, playing bingo, and knitting. She had a special love for cats and was always sure to keep her siblings on their toes. Above all, Barbara cherished her family and the time she spent with those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, James and Geneva Powell; her siblings, Charles, Beatrice "Beaty," Joel, Bill, and Geraldine; her beloved husband, Hugh Thomas; and her sons, Robert Angel and Steve Powell.
Barbara leaves behind to cherish her memory her brother, Herbert, and sister, Bernice; along with a very large number of nieces, nephews, and extended family members whom she cherished wholeheartedly.
The family welcomes friends and loved ones to join them for visitation at Companion Funeral Home of Athens on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 7:00 p.m., with Pastor Anthony Wynn officiating.
A brief graveside service and burial will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Lindsay Cemetery, 127 Shiners Bluff Dr., Madisonville, TN 37354. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
Barbara will be remembered for her feisty spirit, her infectious smile, and the love she shared with her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
